The TV Tower on Mount Snezhanka (daily 9am-4.30pm) has a cafe and an observation gallery giving a marvellous view of the Rhodope Mountains and, on clear days, parts of the Pirin and Rila, too.
One of the phenomena in the Trigrad Gorge in the Rhodopes is the Devil’s Throat abyss cave, formed as a result of the collapse of earth layers. This cave is named Devil's Throat because of a legend. It is a river cave, and the cave river is swallowed by the cave, like a big throat. And as it seemed, that the water never reappeared - at least nothing thrown into the river ever reappeared - the locals called it Devil's Throat. The temperature inside is 8oC. Along an artificially dug tunnel (150m), one can reach an impressive cave hall called Roaring Hall that could accommodate the Alexander Nevski Cathedral in Sofia. A winding steep cement staircase leads from the hall to the natural entrance of the cave. While climbing the 300 steps, the visitor can see one of the highest underground waterfalls in Europe (42m).
This impressive gorge, with its 250m high walls, is one of the largest and most attractive karst formations in Bulgaria and serves as an inviting attraction for rock climbers. This region is home to more than 150 caves.
